My doctor diagnosed it as strep B vaginitis and prescribed amoxicillin, which helped. Strep B, or group B streptococcus, is one possible constituent of the vaginal flora. Symptoms of vaginal atrophy (also called atrophic vaginitis) include vaginal dryness, itching, and a burning. Although most women do not have any symptoms, GBS can cause vaginal burning/irritation and/or unusual discharge. GBS can also cause bladder infections.
